Basic Space Technology Initiative - Projects and Activities

BSTI-related activities

  • International Space University - Space Studies Programme 2011 Team Project on Small Satellites
    In 2011 the Space Studies Programme of the International Space University will be held in Graz, Austria. Programme participants will contribute to one of three team projects, among them a project dealing with small satellites and space technology development capacity building. Participants in this project will be tasked to prepare a guidebook with best practices for the development of small satellites.
  • HUMSAT project and GEOID initiative
    The HUMSAT system is conceived as a "multi-purpose" constellation of nano-satellites and will provide a generic communications service commonly known as "storage and forward", on which the different users of the system will be expected to build and define their own applications. A key concept of HUMSAT is that it foresees the addition of payloads for in-orbit tests. Through an agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA), the Initial European Contribution (IEC) to the HUMSAT system will be used as the initial testing tool of the GENSO network of ground stations. For additional information about opportunities to contribute to and participate in the HUSMAT project please contact fernando.aguado@humsat.org,

  • F'SATI Space Industry Seminar Series 2011 (18-21 July 2011)
    F'SATI, in collaboration with the South African Department of Trade and Industry, the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative (AISI), and EADS Astrium, will host its first Space Industry Seminar in the 2011 Series from 18 - 21 July in Cape Town. Plenary sessions, addressing the South African Space Technology Environment, are dedicated to presentations by stakeholders in Government, Industry and Academia. EADS Astrium will again facilitate the technical sessions on general satellite missions, technology and architecture. A special session on CubeSats is also included in the Programme. Industry and Research Facilities are encouraged to exhibit at the Seminar.  Registration and exhibition are free, but numbers will be limited.

    14 November - 9 December @ Nihon University, Chiba, Japan, 10 - 14 December @ Kitakyushu International Conference Center, Japan
    <Program Contents>
    "CanSat" is a juice can sized satellite model(350ml), which provides excellent training opportunities for researchers and educators in space engineering who wish to learn teaching methods using CanSat. This program is a training course to experience whole cycle of CanSat development that involve design, fabrication and launch by model rocket, participants will be expected to make a textbook in their own language for preparing education in their home countries.  (Details of the program are subject to change without prior notice.)
    In addition, participants will be invited to the 3rd Nano-Satellite symposium in Kitakyushu, Japan in December 2011.
    <CLTP2 Benefits Packages>
    -No Tuition Fee
    -Sponsorship: Limited Fund is available for participation including Local accommodations, Local transportation fees and Round-trip air ticket (most economic, direct flight route) between your home country and Japan
