This presentation will provide an overview of the ISS describing the key features, the International Partner contributions, the research facilities and capabilities of the ISS and the agreed-to policy that describes the process for non-partner participation.

ISS Research Accomplishments and Potential for Future Research

Julie Robinson (NASA):
This presentation will outline some of the most exciting accomplishments that came from research on the space station during the assembly phase and examine the expected value of future research during the upcoming decade of full ISS utilization. Several examples of non-partner ISS utilization will be included.

Space Activities in Malaysia

Mohd. Alauddin Mohd. Ali (Malaysia):
The presentation will discuss space activities undertaken by three main space-related organizations in Malaysia, namely the Malaysian National Space Agency, Astronautic Technology Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian space-related technology company, and the Institute of Space Science of the National University of Malaysia, a research institute dedicated to space research.

Member State Expression of Interest

Adigun Ade Abiodun (Nigeria):

This presentation highlights the benefits that accrued to those developing countries that have directly participated in the ISS and addresses the reasons why others should make the necessary commitment to participate in the ISS/HSTI. Such participation should be in a specific aspect of the space enterprise in which each participating country could make its mark as well as make a difference within the international community. The paper offers suggestions on those aspects that may be of interest to prospective countries. Of critical importance is an unwavering compliance with the Requirements for participation in ISS/HSTI activities. The paper concludes by suggesting model guidelines that could ensure an effective participation by interested developing countries in the ISS/HSTI.

United Nations Human Space Technology Initiative

Takao Doi (UNOOSA):
The United Nations Programme on Space Applications has launched the Human Space Technology Initiative (HSTI) to create awareness among Member States on the benefits of utilizing human space technology. This presentation will show the major activities of the Programme and discuss how the Programme will run the HSTI utilizing its 40-year experience of outreach and capacity building work in space science and technology.

Overview on ISS International Partners' Research and Facilities

Nicole D. Buckley (CSA):
This presentation will review the CSA interests and priorities for the utilization of Canada's allocation on the ISS and will review ongoing ISS-related research programs that are mostly centered on Health conditions in space and applications on Earth.

Eric Istasse (ESA):
This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the ESA research facilities on board ISS. Both pressurized and unpressurized facilities are described. Special emphasis is made to their research capabilities for the various science disciplines (physiology, (exo)biology, fluid physics, material sciences, radiation monitoring).

Tai Nakamura (JAXA):
KIBO is a Japanese Experiment Module attached to the International Space Station, and JAXA is conducting many space experiments using its unique environments such as microgravity, space radiation, and a wide view in space. I will give a short presentation about the experiment facilities on board KIBO.

Julie Robinson (NASA):
This presentation will summarize US Objectives for ISS utilization, including NASA's goals for research and technology development, and the role of the International Space Station as a US National Laboratory.

Georgy Karabadzhak (Roscosmos):
Overview of the ISS Russian segment capabilities to conduct scientific experiments and educational programs is presented in the report. The RS ISS current architecture and agency plans for its development are discussed. The RS ISS offers unique capabilities for Russian scientists to implement extended multidiscipline research program. Scientific instruments and particular experiments in the area of biology and medicine, biotechnology, physical and chemical processes in the reduced gravity environment, astrophysics, geophysics and earth remote sensing are described. Selected research results its scientific merit and industrial implementation capabilities are suggested. Also, international cooperation in the ISS resources utilization is exemplified in the presentation.

ISS-enabled Educational Opportunities

Julie Robinson (NASA):
This presentation will provide an overview of the different international efforts that use the ISS to inspire and motivate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
