United Nations/European Space Agency /ICIMOD Expert Meeting on the Remote Sensing Projects for the Hindu-Kush-Himalaya region, Kathmandu, Nepal  6-10 March 2006

Kathmandu, Nepal
The objectives of this meeting is to review satellite-based remote sensing projects relevant to the Hindu-Kush-Himalaya region, including pilot projects that were proposed at a previous workshop. The meeting aims at initiating a new module for Eduspace "Himalayas from Space". This module will contain case studies. Participants will submit proposals and continue to improve the design of their case studies.


United Nations/Syria/European Space Agency Regional Workshop on the Use of Space Technology for Disaster Management in Western Asia and Northern Africa 22-26 April 2006

Damascus, Syria
The overall objective of this regional workshop is to increase the awareness of policy makers, planners and managers in the area of disaster management and civil protection in Northern Africa and Western Asia of the benefits of using space technology for preventing and managing disasters and also to build upon the recommendations put forward in "The Munich Vision".


United Nations/Zambia/European Space Agency Regional Workshop on the Application of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Technologies for Sub-Saharan Africa 26-30 June 2006

Lusaka, Zambia
The workshop will focus on the application of GNSS technologies that benefit the social and economic growth of the Sub-Saharan Africa region, aims at action planning for implementing specific applications for the region.


UN/India/USA Pilot Project "Telemedicine in the Reconstruction of Afghanistan" Expert Meeting 29-31 August 2006

Cochin, India
The objectives of this meeting are: to review the project activities; experts to share their views and experience; to introduce current state of the technologies and applications, both from medical services and space technology aspects.


The 1st UN/Austria/ESA Symposium on "Space Tools for Monitoring Air Pollution and Managing Energy Resources" 12-15 September 2006

Graz, Austria
The symposium will examine the benefits of space science and technology and their applications to address various issues relating to United Nations global agendas for development.


UN/IAF Workshop on the Use of Space Technology for Water Management 29-30 September 2006

Valencia, Spain
To increase awareness among decision makers and academic community of space technology applications for improving water resource management in developing countries, as well as to promote educational and public awareness initiatives and to strengthen international and regional cooperation in these areas.


The 1st Meeting of ICG (International Committee on GNSS) 1 - 2 November 2006

Vienna, Austria
The main objective of the meeting is the implementation of elements of the ICG work plan and its further development.


United Nations/Ukraine Workshop on Space Law with the theme "Status, Application and Progressive Development of International and National Space Law" 6 - 9 November 2006 

Kyiv, Ukraine
The main objectives are: to promote understanding, acceptance and implementation of the United Nations treaties and principles on outer space; to promote exchange of information on national space laws and policies, for the benefit of professionals involved in the development and implementation of those policies; to consider legal aspects of commercialization of space activities and to consider development of university level studies and programs in space law, with a view to promot national expertise and capability in this field.


United Nations/South Africa Training Course on Satellite-Aided Search and Rescue 20-24 November 2006

Cape Town, South Africa
The primary objectives of the Training Course are to promote an awareness of the International Cospas-Sarsat Satellite-Aided Search and Rescue Programme and to establish a formal interface with the user countries for better understanding and coordination of the programme activities and operations within the region of responsibility of South Africa.


Second UN/NASA Workshop on the International Heliophysical Year and Basic Space Science

UN/China/ESA Training Course on GNSS Applications 4-8 December 2006

Beijing, China
The main objective of the training course is to introduce GNSS technology and its applications to transport and communication, aviation, surveying and mapping, management of natural resources and disasters, and agriculture. The training course will also contribute to international cooperation by providing an opportunity to exchange experiences among the participants.
