Outer space is the province of all humankind, as stated in the Outer Space Treaty, drafted by the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). COPUOS serves as a unique platform for international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space. The Committee brings Member States together to cooperate in promoting and building awareness of the importance of space solutions for dealing with local and global challenges on Earth. COPUOS also studies legal questions arising from the exploration of outer space.
