Media representatives are invited to the awards ceremony of the

2017 Peace and Cooperation School Award

"Looking at the Stars: The Future of the World"

organized by

United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and

Peace and Cooperation

Friday 20 October 2017, 10 a.m. - 11.30 a.m.

Room C-3 in the C building, Vienna International Centre

VIENNA, 18 October (United Nations Information Service) - The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and Peace and Cooperation will jointly host an awards ceremony for the 2017 Peace and Cooperation School Award on 20 October 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. in Room C-3 of the Vienna International Centre.

At the ceremony, awards will be presented to the winners of "Looking at the Stars: The Future of the World" international children's art competition. Over the past year, hundreds of students from around the world have submitted their artworks showing how the exploration of space can bring benefits to humankind.

Several individuals who have been selected as the winners of this competition will attend the ceremony in person, while the rest of the awards will be presented to the Permanent Representatives to the United Nations in Vienna of the respective winners' countries.

Speakers at the awards ceremony will include UNOOSA Director Simonetta Di Pippo, Ambassador Gonzalo de Salazar of the Spanish Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, Peace and Cooperation founder Joaquín Antuña, and Elvira Sanchez-Igual from the Asociación Mundial de Educadores Infantiles-World Association of Early Educators.

This event will also be streamed live at www.unoosa.org.

UNOOSA works to promote international cooperation in the peaceful use and exploration of space, and in the use of space science and technology for sustainable economic and social development.

Peace and Cooperation is a non-governmental organization that has achieved recognition for its untiring defence of peace and non-violence. One of its most outstanding initiatives has been to recognize, with its "Peace and Cooperation School Award", the efforts of those who work towards the ideals of peace, multicultural relations and diversity from all corners of the world. Peace and Cooperation was founded in 1982 by the Spanish peace activist and writer Joaquin Antuña and was nominated as a Peace Messenger organization by the United Nations in 1986.
