International Heliophysical Year 2007: Activities of Member States

Hungary

The plans of Hungarian research institutes for International Heliophysical Year 2007 are:

  • Tihany Observatory of Eötvös Loránd Geophysical Institute (ELGI), Earth Physics Department to study the dynamics of plasmasphere in national and international cooperation. ELGI would like to create a Hungarian website on the topic of Sun-Earth relations. This is an example of the activity on popular education of ELGI.
  • Geodetic and Geophysical Research Institute of ther Hungarian Academy of Sciences is organising a conference in September, 2007. The title of this conference is "Earth Electromagnetism: Geophysical Symposium" on the occasion of fifty-year anniversary of the Nagycenk Observatory.
  • The Heliophysical Observatory of Konkoly Observatory of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences plans the following themes:
    • Debrecen Photoheliographic Data program (production and evaluation of sunspot database)
    • Production of sunspot database by using SOHO/MDI observations
    • H-alpha observations (solar flares)
    • Study of geoeffective solar plasma events
    • North-South asymmetries in the Sun and interplanetary space
    • Sunspot group evolution and penetration of the magnetic field into the solar corona.
