About UNOOSA

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) works to promote international cooperation in the peaceful use and exploration of space, and in the utilisation of space science and technology for sustainable economic and social development. The Office assists any United Nations Member States to establish legal and regulatory frameworks to govern space activities and strengthens the capacity of developing countries to use space science, technology and applications for development by helping to integrate space capabilities into national development programmes. UNOOSA has a unique opportunity to mobilize support and commitment at the global level for increasing the role of space-based technology and information as an enabler of the goals and objectives of the post-2015 development agenda.

As Secretariat to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, UNOOSA supports Member States to monitor and discuss developments related to the exploration and use of outer space.

In cooperation with other United Nations entities, the Office conducts a variety of awareness training and capacity-building activities related to the collection of, access to, and use of satellite-based data and information in support of sustainable development in the context of climate change.
