Established in 2018 by the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space pursuant to General Assembly resolution 73/6 entitled "Fiftieth anniversary of the first United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space: space as a driver of sustainable development". As per document A/75/20, "Decisions and actions by the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its Legal Subcommittee, taken by written procedure", paragraphs 30-32, the Committee decided to extend the Working Group's work plan for one year to finalize its work.
