1st Access to Space for All Initiative Expert Meeting

ONLINE 15 - 17 May 2023

INTRODUCTION

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) launched the Access to Space for All initiative in 2018. It is a joint Initiative of UNOOSA and space agencies, research institutions and industry aimed at developing technical know-how, engineering processes and infrastructure of the United Nations Member States in the areas of hypergravity and microgravity experimentation, satellite development and space exploration. It provides research and orbital opportunities for Member States to access space and to ensure that the benefits of space, in particular for sustainable development, are truly accessible to everyone.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the Expert Meeting are to:

  1. Share success stories and challenges on capacity-building activities and effective outreach;
  2. To discuss how to improve the Access to Space for All initiative;
  3. Bring together partners, awardees, supporting governments, and potential future partners and applicants of the initiative to create a network and build new partnerships;
  4. To raise awareness of the Access to Space for All initiative;

  • Raise awareness of your project and the space-related activities from your organization to a broad audience
  • Provide feedback and share needs and ideas to actively improve the activities of the initiative

Government Officials

  • Learn about the different capacity-building opportunities provided under the initiative to develop human capital, accelerate space engineering education, and interest in STI in your country
  • Collect information on successful capacity-building activities that could be relevant to your country
  • Connect with the partners, awardees, and other related government officials from the various opportunities to network

TENTATIVE PROGRAMME

This event is held fully online. Sessions 1-4 are open to all who register and session 5 is restricted to partners, awardees and past applicants.

Opening Remarks

Overview of the Access to Space for All initiative - UNOOSA

Session 1: Introduction of the Hypergravity and Microgravity Track
Speakers in this session will be partners and awardees, who will share their respective experience.

Day 2 Tuesday 16 May

Session 2: Introduction to the Satellite Development Track
Speakers in this session will be partners and awardees, who will share their respective experience.

Session 3: Introduction to the Space Exploration Track
Speakers in this session will be partners and awardees, who will share their respective experience.

Day 3 Wednesday 17 May

Session 4: Effective Outreach
Awardees will present how to conduct effective outreach towards people who are interested in the initiative, how to showcase the project, etc.

Session 5: Lessons Learned and Way Forward (Restricted to partners, awardees and past applicants)
Participants in this session will discuss recommendations for UNOOSA to improve the initiative.
